Midi Skirts

Midi skirts rely on the way a fabric falls. At this length, the weight and movement of the cloth become part of the shape.A designer midi skirt from Gabriela Hearst is cut in merino wool from the family farm in Uruguay, cashmere, wool crepe, aloe-treated linen, and deadstock cloth, each chosen for how it hangs at that specific mid-calf length. Waistbands are constructed to sit flat, darts are placed to shape the hip without pulling, and hems are finished by hand.


Construction varies with the material. Knitted skirts follow the body and recover their shape through the day, tailored wool holds a straighter line with a vent or a soft pleat for movement, and linen falls looser with a dry, textured hand. Fastenings are concealed to keep the exterior unbroken, and colors hold to black, chocolate, ivory, camel, and gray to richer shades and considered patterns..


These skirts are designed to move easily between seasons, worn with boots through winter and lighter sandals as spring arrives.
