This mill was first founded in 1838 as a cotton producer and became the first in Italy to produce velvet and moleskin textiles. All steps of production are still done locally today, which helps to reduce carbon emissions that would otherwise come from transportation between industrial processes. When possible, they try to use natural processes instead of chemical. For example, they only use natural finishing and washing agents to create the desired performance and feel of material. In comparison, conventional finishing byproducts include heavy metals and microplastics that go into environment. Additionally, they have replaced some of the typical chemical or metal elements of dye process with natural ingredients. This garment was produced at a family-owned Italian factory. It was initially founded in 1957 as a traditional tailor shop, transitioning to become a factory in 1985. Today it is run by the founder’s daughter and her husband.
