Lavani Skirt in Greyscale Inversa™ Snakeskin
The snake is a central symbol woven throughout our Fall ’24 collection—appearing in motif, pattern, and skins. In the work of archaeologist Marija Gimbutas, the snake was revered in ancient European homes as a sacred emblem of good fortune, regeneration, prosperity, and fertility. Its sinuous form exudes quiet power and enduring grace of the ancient goddesses. This wild Burmese python (Python bivittatus) is sourced from the Florida Everglades, where it is a highly invasive species. Just one 20-foot python can consume up to 39 endangered animals and over 460 native species in its lifetime. With 90% of native Everglades wildlife populations under threat, the need is great for removing these predators. By doing so, this initiative helps restore ecological balance to one of the most unique ecosystems in the world. The python hides are tanned using traditional Italian techniques, resulting in a luxurious and smooth snakeskin hand-feel. This purpose-driven harvesting of exotic leathers provides a meaningful, sustainable alternative in luxury leather production.

This exotic leather company is deeply committed to protecting biodiversity—particularly in the Florida Everglades. Their work focuses on removing invasive species like 20-foot Burmese pythons, which have devastated native mammal populations. By harvesting these pythons, the company helps restore ecological balance in one of the most fragile and threatened ecosystems in North America. Their commitment extends beyond the Everglades to include other destructive invaders such as lionfish, which decimate coral reefs, as well as silverfin and iguanas. Unlike farmed python leather, this approach offers a uniquely sustainable alternative: it repurposes invasive species while actively contributing to environmental restoration. In partnering with this exotic leather group, we align with a mission that values biodiversity with bold, restorative action.
This family-owned Italian factory has been operated by 3 brothers since 1989. They produce luxury leather products and carefully select tanneries to ensure highest quality. With value for craftsmanship and community, they offer an apprentice program for workers aged 18-27; the program improves their workforce, creates economic opportunity, and preserves craft expertise. In March 2020, the factory installed solar panels and moved its operations closer to a wastewater recycling facility. They abide by the following compliances: SA8000 Standard - Certified Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)
