Houndstooth: A Study in Fabrication

For Fall 2026, Gabriela Hearst reinterprets the classic pied-de-poule pattern across tailoring, knitwear, and accessories in Camel and Charcoal Houndstooth. Striped color accents introduce a play between old and new, masculine and feminine, while preserving the character of the traditional pattern.

Wool and Silk Tailoring

Developed in a wool and silk mixed base, the fabric is light and soft while retaining warmth. Mélange yarns give the houndstooth significant color depth, complemented by striped color accents.

The pattern is featured across the Leiva Blazer, Rhein Pant, Coleridge Vest, Thereza Jacket, and Wesley Skirt, as well as the Irving and Graham Jackets for men. Each silhouette incorporates traditional tailoring details, translating the pattern across structured jackets, trousers, and skirts.

Cashmere and Silk Knitwear

The houndstooth pattern is further interpreted through a superfine pied-de-poule jacquard, with cashmere stripes knitted directly into the fabric rather than applied afterward. This intricate process is designed to mimic the weft effect of a woven houndstooth fabric, connecting the knitwear to the collection's tailoring.

Crafted in cashmere and silk blend Jaipur yarn, the Shropshire Dress, Pons Crewneck, and Prism Skirt translate the houndstooth motif into knitwear, maintaining the character of the pattern through a different fabrication.

Suede Accessories

The pattern extends into accessories through the Medium Leonora Flap Bag, Leonora Sunglasses Pouch, and Fleur Ballerina Flat. Each piece translates the houndstooth into suede, carrying the pattern beyond ready-to-wear.

Across three distinct fabrications, the houndstooth maintains its scale, definition, and character, connecting tailoring, knitwear, and accessories throughout the Fall 2026 collection.

I wanted to create a brand that had that feeling of things that are well made and long lasting.
